DOCUMENTARY
FITZGERALD
Less is more. I’ve always been drawn to art that employs clear simplicity over excess complexity to tell a story, whether it’s music (Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Solitude), a book (Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree), a movie (Vittorio De Sica’s The Bicycle Thief) or a painting (Alyssa Monks’ Smear). To me an idea boiled down to it’s essence is more powerful, and difficult to achieve than an idea muddied with excess.
Although Kevin Fitzgerald’s paintings are pregnant with life and emotion they are created with the same thoughtful simplicity that I value so much in art.
In this short documentary, I intend to capture the mood of a Fitzgerald painting while giving the viewer a portal into the studio as they’re created.
